People who’ve been to the Nanga Music Festival know that it has a special atmosphere. Nanga is more than music. Its unique flavour comes from a combination of community spirit and participation – set against a backdrop of great music in a beautiful bush setting. Here are some of the things which make Nanga special.
Location
The festival sits in forested bushland on the banks of the Murray River, with tall trees, plentiful wildflowers and resident kookaburras. The location is wide open and rustic – a great place for school-aged children.
Community
With less than 300 patrons and one concert stage, Nanga quickly becomes a community of friends. Communal meals give patrons an opportunity to relax and mingle with the artists and each other.
Music
Nanga promotes all things acoustic across a wide range of styles and genres. We also aim to provide exposure to young and emerging artists, and to foster the Arts in Dwellingup and surrounds.
Participation
Nanga is not just a festival where you sit and watch the ‘stars’. Nanga also provides opportunities where you can (if you wish) participate in music and dance to your level of comfort. Anyone can attend the workshops or sing-a-long at the campfires. The more adventurous can perform at the ‘open mic’ in the listening room. Or you can get up on the main stage and perform with one of the festival’s artists at the Blind Date Concert.
Value
In these times when it is not uncommon to pay over $100 for a single concert ticket, Nanga provides for a whole weekend of great music, in a positive environment, as part of a relaxing and easily accessible escape from city life, for as little as $99.
The Nanga Music Festival has captivated a hard working committee of volunteers who aim to provide as much as possible - while asking for as little as possible. Last year 65% of the ticket price went directly to the performers. Meals and accommodation are run at cost. Children attend for free and families at a discount.
In return, the patrons, artists and committee volunteers experience a magical weekend – away from the city in our beautiful southwest. Along the way we get back to nature, make some new friends and share some amazing music!
